About Us (and that apostrophe...)

Chilli Devil Sauces was first created way back in 2010. Seven years later Chilli Devil's bar appeared in Hull, still we think the UK's only real ale & chilli bar. Move on to 2020 when the original lease on Chilli Devil's bar expired, and we moved our unique setup to a proper street corner pub (and dropped the apostrophe in Chilli Devil's, which had referred to the bar belonging to me, the Chilli Devil). We are now (collectively) Chilli Devils at The New Clarence.

The New Clarence is more than just a business; like any good traditional English pub, we are a community - a welcoming community. We host a range of events and meetings, from live music, through history talks, film nights and choir practices, to (adult) Lego fans' meet-ups.
Seven days a week we offer a warm and relaxed atmosphere, so whether you want to meet up with old friends or find new ones, take in one of our events or just treat yourself to a night off the cooking, pop in and meet us; you're welcome too!
